You’re Getting More With a Therapeutic Massage!

Massage is among the oldest approaches to healing in the world. It goes back more than 4,000 years. In fact, the “father of medicine” Hippocrates wrote that every physician has to be acquainted with a lot of things, including “rubbing” in other words the Art of Massage Therapy.

What can I expect when I go to receive a massage?

Many people miss out on the many benefits of massage because they don’t know what to expect. First thing to understand is that proper draping and ethics are followed at all times. You  will be left by the therapist to unclothe and get on the massage table in private.

You will lay on a clean sheet and cover with another. The massage therapist will knock and ask if you are ready before entering. During the massage, the only area that is ever exposed is the part that is being worked on and sensitive areas of the body are covered at all times.

The massage therapist will always ask you how things are going and will never do anything that is inappropriate or you don’t feel comfortable with.

In 2011, massage popularity continued to increase. However there was a greater percentage of individuals receiving treatments for specific health and medical reasons.

Some interesting statistics gathered from surveys include:

  • Ninety percent of those receiving massage agree that it is effective in reducing pain.
  • Of all people that had a minimum of at least 1 massage in the last 5 years, forty percent surveyed said that they went for specific health conditions, injury rehabilitation, pain management, migraine control or for their wellness overall.
  • 44% of Americans that had massage between 2010 and 2011, had it for medical reasons as compared to 35% from 2009.
  • 53% of massage users report having a session specifically to manage and/or relieve stress.
  •
